Roles in program groups
Updated 20 May 2024
The instructor who creates the coordinator program and the section instructors have different levels of access, depending on their role.
The instructor who creates a coordinator program automatically becomes the primary instructor for all member sections. The coordinator instructor owns all member sections and uses the coordinator program to manage the program features and content, which are inherited by the member sections.
The coordinator program cannot be used to delete students from a member section, but the coordinator instructor can access a member program and remove students.
The coordinator instructor edits the program to set the level of access granted to section instructors in program groups:
- By editing the coordinator program, the coordinator instructor can grant the same level of access to all section instructors in the program group.
- By editing the member programs, the coordinator instructor can set different access levels for section instructors.
The coordinator instructor also can override the default for individual section instructors by editing the roster for the member program.
The coordinator can assign the section instructor role either to a student or to another instructor. In either case, a section instructor's role and capabilities within a member program are determined by the level of access granted by the coordinator. The only difference appears when a member program is removed from a program group. Students assigned the role of section instructor do not appear in the Choose Instructor dropdown list; only individuals with instructor accounts appear in this list.
A section instructor's role and capabilities are determined by the level of access granted by the coordinator instructor. By default, the member program instructor is enrolled in the program as a section instructor with restricted access.
The following table shows what section instructors with different levels of access can do while teaching their member section. The coordinator instructor can also set custom access levels by choosing the tasks that section instructors are allowed to perform. See Set up programs for details.
